Railway police fire into air to foil robbery attempt in Visakha express train

Guntur: The railway police fired three rounds into the air to foil the attempt of robbery in an express train by robbers at Tummala Cheruvu village of Piduguralla mandal in Palnadu district in Andhra Pradesh in the wee hours on Sunday.

According to the railway police, a gang of robbers stopped the Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad, Visakha express train by tampering the signals at Tummalacheruvu village. As soon as the train halted, they boarded a compartment and tried to rob the passengers.

However, the alerted railway security personnel, opened fire into the air three rounds. Hearing the gunshots, the robbers jumped off the compartments and fled the scene.

The railway police suspect that the robber gang belonged to either Maharashtra or Bihar.

The railway police said that similar incidents of stopping express trains by tampering signals took place at Ongole, Renigunta and Komali in the State in recent times.
