Rajasthan: Ex-minister and Bhanwari murder case accused Mahipal Maderna passes away

Jodhpur: Former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna passed away on Sunday morning in Jodhpur after battling cancer for several years. Maderna's body will be taken to his native village Chadi, where he will be cremated. He breathed his last at Jodhpur residence.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has condoled the death of the minister.
Maderna, 69, was suffering from oral cancer for a long time. About a month ago, he had got bail from the Rajasthan High Court in the Bhanwari Devi case.
He was the district chief of Jodhpur for more than 18 years, besides being an MLA from Bhopalgarh assembly constituency from 2003 to 2008 and Osian from 2008 to 2013.
He was also a Cabinet Minister of water supply department in the then Gehlot-government. During this, he had to go to jail after the Bhanwari episode came to light.
His father, Late Parasram Maderna, was also veteran Congress leader and former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
Mahipal's wife Leela Maderna is currently the district head of Jodhpur in the recent Panchayat elections and has two daughters Divya Maderna and Rupal Maderna. Divya is currently the MLA from Osian. (UNI)
