Rioting case: Charges framed against AAP MLA Som Dutt

New Delhi: Metropolitan Magistrate Ruby Neeraj Kumar today framed charges against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Som Dutt in a rioting case which allegedly took place during the campaign for the 2015 Assembly elections. July 27 was set to record the statements of prosecution witnesses in the case. One Sanjeev Rana had filed the complaint against Dutt.
After investigation, Delhi Police had registered an FIR( First Information Report) against the AAP leader. Rana had alleged that during the canvassing at Gulabi Bagh in North Delhi, Dutt and his supporters hit his leg with a baseball bat. He further submitted that after an argument, Dutt dragged him out on the road and beat him, causing grievous injuries. Dutt ,who is the MLA from Sadar Bazar assembly constituency, has denied the charges and pleaded not guilty, claiming trial.
The Judge has framed charges against Dutt relating to rioting, wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing grievous hurt and unlawful assembly sections of the Indian Penal Code. (UNI)
