New Delhi: Show cause notices have been sent by the JNU Administration to 20 students, including former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, and Umar Khalid, asking for explanation for the alleged illegal confinement of vice-chancellor and other officials in the building of the university a few weeks ago, sources said. The vice-chancellor and other senior officials in the administrative building were confined by a group of protesting students for over 20 hours last month.

Students alleged that the administration did not do anything in locating missing student Najeeb Ahmad. Najeeb, who is a student of school of Biotechnology and belonged to Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, went missing on October 15 after he had a scuffle in the campus allegedly with the ABVP members, the night before. A Special Investigation Team was formed last month by the police on the directions of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Verma.

The October 14 incident, after which the JNU student Najeeb went missing, was investigated by the university panel which found the ABVP members guilty of assaulting him. However, JNU students and teachers also staged a protest against the university administration and Delhi Police for their failure in locating the missing student.(UNI)
