Smoke seen at Rajiv Chowk Station, passengers immediately evacuated

New Delhi: With a blast like sound and smoke emanating from the last bogey of Samaypur-Badli bound Metro train, commuters were made to vacate the metro at the Rajiv Chowk Station in the national capital today and shifted to a safer place. The eye -witnesses narrated that they heard a a mild explosion from the roof of the train and all of a sudden spark ignited converting into clouds of smoke. The guards deployed at the station immediately swung into action and evacuated the passengers to a safer place.
According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson, the incident took place at around 1015 hrs which affected the train movement at Yellow Line for a short period of time. Preliminary investigations reveal the smoke source as a 'short circuit' but further investigations are on.
The spokesperson said ,"Around 1017 hours, the DMRC received an information that smoke accompanied by spark was seen coming from the AC panel attached on the roof of the last compartment of Samaypur-Badli bound train at Rajiv Chowk junction.As a precaution, the travelers were immediately made to deboard and sit in another train. The train in question has been sent to the depot for complete analysis and metro services have been restored on the Yellow Line. (UNI)
