Mangaluru: A Muslim group, named Muslim Defense 24*7, has circulated a message on various social media platforms threatening action against women if they don't wear burqa and take selfies in public places.
"They say if they find someone without a burqa, they would be taught a lesson unless their parents teach them the etiquette of behaving in public places. We are working on this case," Mangaluru Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar told reporters here.
The message posted on Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram platforms, says that it is their duty to protect Muslim women from any violation of religious practices.
Replying to a query, Kumar said the police have deciphered the involvement of some members of the organisation who have shared the message, but the origin of it has to be established.
The threat comes in the wake of hijab controversy, which is now raging in Ghaziabad.
Karnataka has also seen controversy over halal meat, and azaan on loudspeakers. (UNI)
