Two tigresses found dead in the Nilgiris

Chennai: Two tigresses were found dead in close proximity to each other in a water body in Nehru Nagar at Emerald in Kundha on Saturday evening.
 
An offical release from the office of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve Field Director said the carcasses of the tigress were found near the Avalanchi dam surplus water canal.
 
While one of them was found dead in the water body, the other was found dead on the bankment.
 
There were no injuries on the carcasses of the tigresses and they could have died two days ago, it said.
 
A 20-member Team headed by Assistant Conservator of Forests (HQ) Devaraj was formed and they were inspecting the area to ascertain whether the tigresses was poisoned.
 
As per the gudelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority the post mortem on the carcasses was performed today.
 
The samples are being sent to the forensic lab after which the exact reason for the death of the tigresses will be known, it said.
 
S. Gowtham, District Forest Officer (Nilgiris Division) visited the spot and conducted an inquest.
 
In the last one month, six tigers have died across the Nilgiris, including three in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, one in Naduvattam in the Nilgiris and the two in Emerald. (UNI)
