Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated rape convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s wife as the candidate for the district panchayat member from the Fatehpur Chaurasi in Unnao.
The outgoing district panchayat president Sangeeta Sengar, wife of Kuldeep Singh Sengar who was expelled from the party after being found guilty of rape, is once again in the poll fray. Sangeeta Sengar will contest for the district panchayat member from Unnao’s Fatehpur Chaurasi. However, BJP leaders in Unnao are opposing the decision to give her the ticket in hushed voices.
The Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh had on Thursday announced the names of the candidates for the third phase of the District Panchayat elections. Name of Sangeeta Sengar in the list came as surprise.
The party has nominated Sangeeta as a candidate for the District Panchayat in Unnao. She was the District Panchayat President even before the Unnao case. The BJP has given her a ticket again.
She has been given the ticket from Fatehpur Chaurasi III of Unnao. Elections will be held in Unnao in the third phase on April 24. (UNI)
