Lucknow: Asaduddin Owaisi-led All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Sunday categorically ruled out having any alliance with the Samajwadi Party post the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls-2022.
Terming it as a 'rumour', AIMIM's state president Shaukat Ali said, "there is no question of our party having an alliance with the Samajwadi Party. Our party will fight on around 100 seats in Uttar Pradesh."
Earlier, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had vehemently denied reports of any alliance with the Samajwadi Party in the upcoming UP assembly elections.
Mr Ali further said, " We have never said that AIMIM can tie-up with Samajwadi Party on the condition that Akhilesh Yadav will make a Muslim leader Deputy Chief Minister if voted to power. We categorically deny this, as neither I nor AIMIM chief Owaisi have made this statement."
It was reported that AIMIM has put a condition for the post of Deputy Chief Minister before the alliance with Samajwadi Party. It further says that if the government is formed, a senior Muslim MLA should be made Deputy Chief Minister representing Bhagadari Sankalp Morcha.
However, Mr Ali on Sunday stated that they had only said that Samajwadi Party had come to power in the 2017 elections after getting 20 per cent Muslim votes, but they did not make any Muslim as Deputy Chief Minister.
Earlier, the AIMIM had announced that it would contest 100 seats in the 2022 assembly elections in UP. There are 110 assembly seats in the state where about 30 to 39 percent of the voters are Muslims. On the other hand, this percentage is 40-49 in 44 seats and 50-65 percent in 11 seats.
AIMIM is also in touch with several regional parties in UP for an alliance in the 2022 assembly polls. AIMIM had fielded candidates on 38 seats in the 2017 assembly elections but did not win a single seat.
It is noteworthy that AIMIM along with Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (Om Prakash Rajbhar's party) has formed Bhagadari Sankalp Morcha.
Bhagidari Morcha is preparing for the 2022 assembly elections. (UNI)
