Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday condoled the demise of 84-year-old Shova Mujumdar, who along with her son, was allegedly brutally assaulted by some TMC supporters at her Nimta residence in North 24 Parganas district, last month.
“Anguished over the demise of Bengal’s daughter Shova Majumdar ji, who was brutally beaten by TMC goons,” Mr Shah wrote on his twitter account.
After over a month of fighting with her injuries, primarily in the face, Shova Rani Majumdar, who was also admitted to a hospital, breathed her last at Patna-Thakurtala residence under Nimta police station in the wee hours of Monday.
She was assaulted on February 27 by a gang of youths while trying to save her son Gopal Majumdar, a BJP worker, residing under Ward No 6 of the North Dum Dum Assembly constituency.
Gopal, who is in his late 50s, is physically challenged by birth.
The attackers had barged into their house and assaulted both the octogenarian mother and her son.
The widow had been admitted to a hospital for 4/5 days. She was undergoing treatment at her
Nimta residence where she died early today.
Her face was injured badly in the assault and its video went viral on social media, evoking nation-wide criticism.
