Wayanad: A young college lecturer, who had come to a resort for a week-end vacation, was trampled to death by a wild elephant at a private resort in Elametleri cardamom estate, close to the forest area in Chembramala near Meppadi on Saturday night.

The victim, Shahana Sathar (24), a Kannur-native, working as a lecturer in Dar-Ul-Nujm College of Arts & Science in Perambra, had come to the resort on Saturday to spend a night.

The incident occurred at around 2000 hours last night when she and two others came out of the tent and were walking in the plantation area, which is close to the forest.

Having noticed the presence of an elephant, the trio fled to safety but not before the victim could make it. Though she was rushed to the hospital, her life could not be saved, police said.

Sleeping in tents in the cardamom plantation and swimming in a nearby pool were the main attractions of the resort, deep inside the forest.

The body of the woman has been handed over to her family members after an autopsy at the Kozhikode Medical College hospital on Sunday. (UNI)
