New Delhi: Expressing his willingness to fight the coming Assembly elections in Punjab from any seat that the Congress high command offers him, former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu today said that his only agenda in the elections was to restore the state of Punjab, to its old prosperity. Addressing a press conference along with AICC General Secretary Ajay Maken, a day after he joined the Congress, Mr Sidhu said, 'I will fight elections from whichever seat that the party asks me to.' Denying any Chief ministerial ambitions, the firebrand Punjab leader said, 'I am ready to fight elections under anybody that Congress High command chooses as the leaders in Punjab.'
Asserting that his only agenda in the elections was to restore the state of Punjab to its old prosperity, Sidhu said, 'Navjot Sidhu's fight is for the redemption of Punjab. I have no personal agenda. I am only here to redeem Punjab to restore it to its old prosperity.’’ Charging the ruling Akali Dal-BJP Govenrmet of destroying Punjab during the last ten years rule, Sidhu said,’’it is a subject of introspection as to how Punjab, which was opnce an ‘annadata’ (giver) of the country has turned into a ‘beggar’.
Akali Dal, which was once a pure body, has now become a personal fiefdom of some persons.’’ He said that during the election campaign, he would tell the people how the present Akali Dali Govenrmet destroyed the economy of the state to the level that it is at present under a debt of Rs 2 lakh crore. 'I will tell the people of the state how they (Akali Dal) have destroyed the state.
I will completely expose them,' Mr Sidhu said. Replying to questions about his utterances against Punjab PCC chief Amarinder Singh, he said,’’in a Democracy, there can be differences of opinion but they can be resolved by talking across the table.’’ Describing himself as a 'born Congressman', Mr Sidhu said, 'I am a born Congressman. I have come back to my roots.' (UNI)
