Woman stripped in-front of the villagers, six arrested

Vijayapura: Police today arrested six people on charges of allegedly assaulting a woman, after stripping naked, and her paramour on money matter at Hiremasali village of Indi taluk in this district on July 2. Superintendent of Police Kuladeep Kumar Jain said that cases were booked against nine people under different sections of IPC and the IT Act.
Mr Jain said that though the incident occurred on Sunday last it came to light only on July four after video-clippings of the incident filmed by some villagers went viral, drawing attention of the police officials.
The victim woman Savitri Dundaya Gundayl (32) have been shifted to Vijayapura district hospital for treatment and her condition was said to be normal. District in-charge Minister M B Patil visited the hospital and inquired the health of the victim. Later talking to press-persons Mr Patil strongly condemned the incident and ordered an inquiry.
Mr Jain said that CI Nandareddy was appointed as an inquiry officer into the incident and ASI Shivananda was kept under suspension and departmental inquiry will be held against him for his negligence in the incident. Some villagers filmed the act, which continued for an hour in public view. As video clips of the incident went viral in WhatsApp and other social media, local police swung into action and booked all the accused on charges of sexual harassment, obscenity and criminal conspiracy.
