Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yasin Malik was today arrested and lodged in the Central Jail in this summer capital. The arrest comes a day after the JKLF chief visited the residence of two slain militants, including Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Sabzar Bhat, at Tral in South Kashmir district of Pulwama.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference and JKLF, spearheading the agitation, have called for two-day strike from today in protest against the killing of Sabzar, successor of Burhan Wani, and seven other militants in two different encounters yesterday. A JKLF spokesperson told UNI that a large police party today came to the residence of Malik in Maisuma, where restrictions have been imposed to prevent protests, and arrested him.
“The JKLF chief was then lodged in the Central Jail in Srinagar,” he added. Sabzar and another militant, Faizan Muzaffar, were killed in an encounter with security forces at Tral. Meanwhile, six infiltrators were killed by the security forces at Line of Control (LoC) in Rampora sSctor in North Kashmir district of Baramulla. (UNI)
