Ashwin's all round show, Rishab Pant draws level with Dhoni : Records galore in Chennai Test

Chennai: Statistical highlights of the first test between India and Bangladesh which the home team won by 280 runs on the fourth day on Sunday, thanks to off spinner R.Ashwin's all round show--a century and a six wicket haul.
 
With figures of 6 for 88, Ashwin now has 37 five-wicket hauls in Tests, the joint-second most by any bowler alongside Shane Warne. Former Sri Lankan off spinner Muthiah Muralitharan's leads the pack with 67 five wicket hauls, according to Espncricinfo.
 
Coming into the Chennai test at 38 years and 2 days, Ashwin has now become the oldest man to claim a five-wicket haul for India in Tests. The previous oldest was Vinoo Mankad, 37 years and 306 days old, going into the Peshawar Test against Pakistan in 1955.
 
Ashwin also became the the first cricketer to score a hundred and bag a five-wicket haul in the same Test twice at one venue. Before today's instance against Bangladesh, Ashwin had achieved the feat at Chepauk against England in 2021.
 
Ashwin also became the oldest player to achieve the double of scoring a hundred and bagging a five-wicket haul in a Test. Polly Umrigar was the previous oldest--36-years-and-seven-days old, going into the Port of Spain Test- in 1962 against West Indies - where he scored an unbeaten 172 and took a five-for.
 
This was for the fourth time Ashwin has scored a hundred and taken a five-wicket haul in the same Test. Only England's Ian Botham (five) has done it more times than Ashwin. Garry Sobers (West Indies), Mushtaq Mohammad (Pakistan), Jacques Kallis (South Africa), Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) and Ravindra Jadeja (India) are the other cricketers to achieve this double twice.
 
Today's six wicket haul was the 7th Five-fors for Ashwin in the fourth-innings in Tests, the joint-second most, alongside Warne and Muralitharan. Rangana Herath of Sri Lanka leads the list with 12 five-wicket hauls.
 
Wicket keeper Rishab Pant, who scored a century in the second innings, has drawn level with iconic MS Dhoni. His sixth hundred in Test cricket is the joint-most by a wicketkeeper for India in the format and drew level with Dhoni.
 
This is the 12th instance of left arm spinner Jadeja scoring 50-plus runs and taking five or more wickets in a Test match. Only Botham (16) has done it more often than Jadeja, while Ashwin and Shakib have done it 11 times each.
 
India's win-loss record in Tests after their win in the Chennai Test is 179-178. It is the first instance in India's Test history where their wins have exceed their losses.
 
India are now among the five teams with a positive win-loss record in men's Tests.
