Australia defeats West Indies by 15 runs in a exciting match

And that brings us to the end of our coverage of the 10th match of the 2019 World Cup, with Australia walking away with a 15-run win, a tremendous recovery from the miserabe position they found themselves in when they were five down with just 79 on board. They've recorded their 10th ODI win on the trot, while West Indies have a lot to ponder over going into the next set of games. 

Riding on Nathan Coulter-Nile's 92 and Steven Smith's 73 runs, Australia set a challenging target of 288 runs for West Indies in 10th World Cup match here at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Australia were all out in 49 overs. From Indies side Pacer Carlos Brathwaite took three wickets in his 10 over spell, while Oshane Thomas, Sheldon Cottrell, Andre Russell picked two wickets each.

Earlier, Jason holder won the toss and put Australia to bat first.Australia got off to a bad start as their skipper Aaron Finch departed early for 6 off 10 balls. Soon, the Aussies slipped to 38 for 4. Opener David Warner (3), Usman Khawaja (13) and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (0) were failed to face fiery West Indies' bowling.

Former captain Steven Smith and another right-handed batsman Marcus Stoinis tried to consolidate the Aussies' innings before latter was removed by West Indian skipper Jason Holder for 19 (23 balls, 4 fours) and Australia were reduced to 79/5 in 16.1 overs. They added 41 runs for the fifth wicket.

Smith and Alex Carey stitched together a partnership of 68 runs for the sixth wicket partnership, helping their team to get past 100 runs mark.Carey was caught behind the stump by wicket-keeper Shai Hope off all-rounder Andre Russsel for 45 (55 balls. 7 fours).

Nathan Coulter-Nile and Smith restarted the process of rebuilding the innings. Meanwhile, Coulter-Nile was more aggressive, bringing up his maiden fifty in just 41 balls. They added crucial 102 runs for the seventh wicket. Sheldon Cottrell took a brilliant catch at deep backward square-leg to dismiss Smith for 73 runs (107 balls, 7 fours).

In the death overs, Carlos Brathwaite helped Windies wrap the Australian tail, taking three wickets. He dismissed Coulter-Nile for 92 runs (60 balls, 8 fours, 4 sixes).(UNI)
