Mangaluru: Police Commissioner Shashikumar has transferred three Assistant Sub Inspectors (ASI) and five Head Constables of the City Crime Branch (CCB) for sharing a table with a person accused of indulging in cricket betting.
Shashikumar said that such acts by the police personnel tarnishes the image of the force “It is very disappointing to see such conduct by our staff. As it would jeopardize all our efforts to improve public perception and police image,”
The Police Commissioner confirmed that the transfer decision was taken as the said personnel were found to be sharing a table with a person accused in a betting case and that too while they were on duty.
They have been transferred to Konaje, Bajpe, Mangaluru North, Kankanady, Mangaluru South, Urwa and Karke police stations.
The transfer orders have already been issued and they will report to their new police stations on Sunday morning.
“Despite some explanations, this decision was taken as I found it is appropriate and proportionate,” added Shashikumar.
In a viral video, the cricket betting accused is seen sharing the table with CCB cops in plain clothes at a bar and restaurant in Kuttar on the outskirts of Mangaluru city. (UNI)
