Cricketer Mayank Agarwal, captain of the Karnataka Ranji Trophy team, was on Tuesday rushed to hospital after falling ill in New Delhi-bound flight from Agartala.
As per reports, Mayank Agarwal drank a liquid from a pouch in front of him accidentally thinking it to be water. However, he stopped drinking when he felt acidic. Then, he complained of burning sensation on his mouth and throat.
The flight returned to the Tripura capital and Agarwal was deboarded and admitted to the ICU section of ILS Hospital in Agartala, according to reports.
The 32-year-old is said to be out of danger and is likely to be discharged from the hospital today.
"This evening, cricketer Mayank Agarwal was transported from the MBB Airport Agartals to ILS Hospitals Agartala. He was experiencing some oral irritation and swelling on his lips. After being assessed by the consultants of the hospital in emergency, he was admitted. For now, he's clinically stable and is being constantly clinically monitored," the hospital said in a release on Tuesday.
“Mayank Agarwal, an international cricketer, while sitting on a flight saw a pouch in front of him and thinking of it as water, drank it. He had swelling and ulcers in his mouth. His condition is normal, and his vitals are stable. His manager has made a complaint. We are registering the complaint and will investigate the matter,” says SP West Tripura Kiran Kumar K.
Karnataka team manager, on Agarwal's behalf, has requested the Tripura police to investigate the incident.
A written complaint has been signed and given to K Kiran Kumar, Superintendent of Police (Tripura West) and a case has been registered under the jurisdiction of the New Capital Complex Police Station in Agartala.
Agarwal had led the Karnataka team to a 29-run win over Tripura at the Maharaj Bir Bikram Stadium in Agartala. The Karnataka team was travelling to Surat to play against Railways in their next match at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat from Friday (February 2).
