The Indian skipper has failed to recover from his thumb injury sustained during the second ODI
and will not be available for the second Test.
The Medical Team is of the opinion that the injury needs some more time to heal completely before the Indian captain can bat and field with full intensity. He will continue his rehab and will not be available for the second and final Test against Bangladesh, BCCI secretary Jay Shah in a statement said.
The injury occurred during the fourth delivery of the second over of the second ODI, sent down by Mohammed Siraj, as Rohit, who was fielding in the slip cordon, tried to catch a ball and hurt his thumb. The Indian skipper was immediately taken off the field and replaced by Rajat Patidar.
Rohit came out to bat, scoring a brilliant half-century but was then ruled out of the final ODI and the first Test.
In his absence, KL Rahul led the side as India won the first Test in Chattogram by a comfortable margin of 188 runs. Rahul will continue to lead the side in the second Test, as India will further aim to solidify their position in the top two of the World Test Championship standings.
Pacer Navdeep Saini has also been ruled out with an abdominal muscle strain. The fast bowler will now report to the NCA for further management of his injury.
