India and Pakistan declared joint winners in Champions Trophy

Muscat: India and Pakistan were declared joint winners after Men's Asian Hockey Champions Trophy final match was called off due to heavy downpour here on Sunday night. 

The match,  supposed to be played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, did not start due to heavy rains.Tournament director decided to forfeit the game after having a discussion with both the coaches of India and Pakistan.
 
Indian team had not lost even a single match in the tournament. Before the finals, India had beaten Pakistan 3-1 in the round-robin match on October 20.
 
Earlier in the day, Malaysia defeated Japan 3-2 in the shoot-out after the match was ended at 2-2 in the regulation time, claiming third sport in the tournament. 
 
Both India and Pakistan have won the title twice. In the inaugural edition of the tournament (2011), India defeated Pakistan in penalty shoot-out 4-2 in Ordos, China.
 
India now will play World Cup that is slated to begin from November 28, at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.India will face South Africa in their opener.(UNI)
