India to host 2025 Women's ODI World Cup

Birmingham: International Cricket Council (ICC) Board approved India, Bangladesh, England and Sri Lanka as the four host countries of the ICC women’s white ball events from 2024-2027 during the ongoing Annual Conference here.
 
The ICC said that four women's tournaments will take place in four years. Next ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025 will be staged by India. The tournament will be India's fifth hosting an ICC Women's tournament, with four tournaments so far being ICC Women's World Cups. Eight teams will compete in the tournament, making up a total of 31 matches.

Sourav Ganguly, President, BCCI said: “We were keen on hosting the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and we are glad that we have won the hosting rights for this marquee clash on the women’s calendar. India hosted the 50-over women’s World Cup in 2013 and the sport has undergone tremendous transformation since then. The popularity of women’s cricket is rapidly rising, and this is a step in the right direction. The BCCI will work closely with the ICC and fulfil all the requirements.”

The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 will take place in Bangladesh. The tournament will be held between September-October, and comprise 10 teams playing 23 matches.

This will be the first time that Bangladesh will be hosting a major ICC women's tournament and the second time it will be hosting a T20 World Cup.

The next event on the calendar will be the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by England in June. This will be the first time the tournament will be held in England. The number of teams will also increase from 10 to 12, with a total of 33 matches to be played.

Sri Lanka will host the ICC Women's T20 Champions Trophy 2027 subject to them qualifying for the event.

The hosts were selected via a competitive bidding process overseen by a Board sub-committee chaired by Martin Snedden along with Clare Connor, Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Skerritt. The ICC Board accepted the recommendations of the committee who conducted a thorough review of each bid along with ICC management. (UNI)
