India vs Newzealand 1st T20I match called off due to persistent rain

Both teams which ended up on the wrong side of the result in the recently concluded T20 World Cup Semifinals were hoping for a consolation victory in the T20I bilateral series, but the forecast had other plans.India and New Zealand lost to England and Pakistan, respectively, in the knockout matches.
It was raining cats and dogs in the wellington since morning due to which the match set to be played between Newzealand and India was washed out not only without a ball being bowled but also keeping the toss at bay.
The second T20I will be played in Mount Maunganui on Sunday where young turks Umran Malik, Shubman Gill, and Ishan Kishan will look to make the cut.(WD/UNI)
