IOA Chief claims India on right path to become sporting power house

New Delhi: Indian Olympic Association president Narinder Dhruv Batra while congratulating commonwealth athletes said on Monday that the nation is on right path to become the sporting power house.
"On behalf of the IOA, I would like to congratulate each and every athlete who participated in the Commonwealth Games and brought glory to the country. Their hard work has paid rich dividends and I can proudly say that we as a nation are on the right path to become a sporting powerhouse," he said while congratulating the athletes.
Indian players with their impressive performance won 66 medals - 26 Gold, 20 Silver and 20 Bronze at the Gold Coast Games, the Indian contingent surpassed the tally of 64 with 15 golds, achieved at the last edition of the quadrennial event at Glasgow in 2014.India also completed 500 medals in the history of Commonwealth Games with these 66 medals. Indian athletes also broke 11 Commonwealth Games records during the games.
India left behind a total of 64 medals including 15 golds in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. India's best performance in the Commonwealth Games in 2010 where they remained at second position in Delhi. Indian athletes won a total of 101 medals, including 38 gold. Also India had won 69 medals, including 30 golds in the 2002 Commonwealth Games, and remained at fourth place.(UNI)
