Dubai: "Can't believe people wrote him off saying he was done (David Warner). That's when he plays his best cricket. It was almost like poking the bear," Team Australia Captain Aaron Finch said.
Finch said in praise of Warner for clinching Player of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 for his vital knocks throughout the tournament. His 53 runs were no exception in the final against New Zealand.
"Poking the bear" in urban dictionary means to make a person angry by constantly poking at him. "One can poke a bear once and maybe get away with it, but if one keeps poking him, the animal is going to get really angry," the dictionary says.
Lauding some great individual performances, Finch said Adam Zampa was the player of the tournament for him and Mitchell Marsh played a fantastic innings in the finals. Also Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis did the business.
Australia clinched their maiden T20 World Cup title after an eight-wicket win over New Zealand in the final here.
Opting to field first, Australia restricted New Zealand to 172 for 4 in their innings. In reply, Australia lost skipper Aaron Finch early, David Warner and Marsh shared together a fine 92-run partnership for the second wicket to wrest the game away from the Kiwis. (UNI)
