Kohli sets new record of fastest 16,000 runs

New Delhi: Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday scored 20 century completing 5,000 runs in Test cricket and also created a new record of becoming the fastest to reach 16,000 runs in international cricket.Kohli after scoring 25 runs on day one of the final Test against Sri Lanka here at Feroz Shah Kotla ground reached 5,000 run mark in 63 matches.

Kohli has become the fourth Indian batsman to score the fastest 5,000 runs.The Indian skipper completed his century after Tea which is his 20th century in Tests.

Sunil Gavaskar's 5000 runs came off in 95 innings, Virender Sehwag (99), Sachin Tendulkar (103) while Virat Kohli took 105 innings to reach this milestone.

Virat is the 11th Indian batsman to reach the 5000 run.Previously Sachin, Dravid, Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly,Mohammad Azharuddin, Sehwag, Gundappa Viswanath, Dilip Vengsarkar and Kapil Dev have achieved this milestone.

Kohli also became the fastest to score 16,000 runs in international cricket after playing 350 innings breaking record of South African batsman Hashim Amla's 363 innings while Sachin's 16,000 runs came in 376 innings. (UNI)
