Mohammed Shami becomes fastest Indian to take 100-wkt in ODIs

Napier: India's right-arm pace bowler Mohammed Shami reached the 100-wicket mark to become the fastest Indian to reach the landmark during the first One Day International (ODI) of the five-match series against New Zealand here on Wednesday.
In his 56th appearance in the format, he dismissed Martin Guptill in his first over of the match, which was match's second over, with the Kiwi opener playing onto his stumps a delivery that moved in after pitching on a good length.Before Shami, this Indian record was held by left-armer Irfan Pathan who took 100-wicket in 59 ODIs.
 
Former left-arm medium pacer Zaheer Khan reached the mark in his 65 ODIs, he also completed his 100-wicket mark against New Zealand during 2003 World Cup held in South Africa. 
 
Mumbai's Ajit Agarkar and Karnataka' s Javagal Srinath took 67 and 68 matches to reach the milestone, respectively.Earlier, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first.(UNI)
