Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced the suspension of the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for a period of one week with immediate effect, citing the prevailing national security situation following the recent terrorist attack and subsequent aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces.

The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after detailed consultations with all key stakeholders, including franchise representatives, the league’s broadcaster, sponsors and fan groups, a BCCI statement said.

"While we repose full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders," the BCCI said.

The Board expressed its unwavering solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces, and the citizens of the country in light of the ongoing military response under Operation Sindoor. "We salute the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts continue to protect and inspire the nation," the statement added.

The BCCI stressed that while cricket remains a passion across the nation, "there is nothing greater than the Nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security."

Further updates regarding the revised IPL schedule and venues will be shared in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with the relevant authorities and stakeholders.

The Board also extended its gratitude to Jiostar, the league’s official broadcaster, along with title sponsor TATA and other associate partners, for their unequivocal support and understanding in these testing times.
