Christchurch (New Zealand): New Zealand opener Tom Latham made it to the list of elite openers after scoring a scintillating 252 runs on the day two of the Test match against Bangladesh at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
India's Virender Sehwag is the only Indian opening batsman who has more than two 250 plus scores to his name in the longest format of the game. Sanath Jayasuriya, Graeme Smith, Chris Gayle, Alastair Cook and David Warner have two innings of 250 plus runs as openers.
Latham's 252 is the highest opening score by any Kiwi captain. He broke Graham Dowling's record of 239 runs against India in 1968.
Also, this is the fourth highest individual score in a Test match against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka's Kumara Sangakkara is the only player to score a triple century against Bangladesh.
Apart from this, Trent Boult reached 300 Test wickets. He joined Sir Richard Hadlee, Daniel Vettori and Tim Southee as the fourth New Zealander to reach the landmark.
The Kiwi pacer also become the seventh left-arm bowler and fifth left-arm fast bowler to take 300 wickets in Test cricket. (UNI)
