PAK vs WI: 3 WI players test COVID positive upon arrival

Karachi: Cricket West Indies on Sunday said that three of their players and a non-coaching staff member of the team management have tested Covid positive upon arrival here.
Players Sheldon Cottrell, Roston Chase, Kyle Mayers and a non-coaching member of the team management have tested positive for Covid-19, CWI CEO Johnny Grave said.
Though the infected players are fully vaccinated and without major symptoms, they will not be available for the upcoming series against Pakistan, he said. They will undergo a period of self-isolation for 10 days until they test negative, he added.
Grave said despite this significant setback to the team's preparation plans, they are confident that the tour can continue as everyone else has tested negative prior to their arrival in Pakistan.
Despite the bio-bubbles in which the players live in, the risk of Covid infection cannot be ruled out due to a cricket tour, he said.
The loss of these players, Grave said, will seriously impact the team's preparations, but the rest of the players are in good spirits and will begin training ahead of the first game on Monday. (UNI)
