New Delhi: Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has finally broken his silence on his much-discussed breakup with choreographer and influencer Dhanashree Verma, revealing emotional details about the reasons behind their split.
In a recent podcast appearance, Chahal shared that the issues in their marriage were not sudden or triggered by a single incident. "It had been going on for a long time," he said, adding that their relationship had been strained for almost two years.
He admitted that although they appeared to be a "normal couple" on social media, deeper issues were simmering beneath the surface.
Chahal also opened up about how public speculation—especially cheating allegations—took a toll on his mental health. "Reading those things when you know the truth... it shatters you from inside," he said, revealing that he had slipped into depression and even contemplated suicide during the peak of public scrutiny.
The couple reportedly tried to make the relationship work, but fundamental disagreements emerged—especially regarding where they should live. Dhanashree reportedly wanted to shift to Mumbai for work, while Chahal preferred staying in Gurgaon to be close to his family and cricketing commitments.
Their divorce was finalized on March 20 this year with Chahal paying Rs 4.75 crore as alimony, and is said to have already paid out Rs 2.37 cr. Chahal claims to be slowly healing from the emotional damage and concentrating on his work and well-being.
