Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday.

Tamim, 36, was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP-3 ground in Savar when he suddenly felt discomfort in chest after the toss. He was rushed to the hospital after being given medical attention on the field.

The doctors confirmed he had suffered a heart attack. He reportedly underwent an emergency operation, and a stent was placed in his heart to keep the blocked coronary artery open.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) promptly canceled its scheduled board meeting, and several board members visited him at the hospital.

The cricket community is in shock, and fans, former teammates, and cricket boards have expressed deep concern over Tamim's sudden health crisis. His family is rushing to be with him, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief physician, Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, assured that Tamim is under close medical supervision.

Tamim has had an illustrious career, representing Bangladesh in 391 matches across formats between 2007 and 2023. His impressive record boasts over 15,000 international runs, making him the only Bangladeshi batsman to achieve centuries in all three international formats.
