Tokyo: Though Indian athlete Avinash Sable set a new national record in the 3000m steeplechase still it wasn't enough to help him qualify the men's finals at the Tokyo Olympics here on Friday.
Avinash was the 13th fastest overall among 41 runners in the 3000m steeplechase and clocked 8:18.12 to finish seventh in his heat, bettering his national record of 8:20.20 set at the Federation Cup in March earlier this year.
Meanwhile, runner Dutee Chand bowed out of the women's 100m after finishing 45th out of 54 runners with a time of 11:54 to finish seventh out of eighth in her heat.
Dutee will next run in the women's 200m on Monday.
Earlier, MP Jabir also failed to make it to the next round of the men’s 400m hurdles event, clocking 50.77 seconds and finishing seventh and last in his heat. (UNI)
