Trinidad and Tobago: Almost a depleted Indian U19 team took the field against Ireland here on Wednesday with Nishant Sindhu leading the side, after several players, including captain Yash Dhull and vice-captain SK Rasheed, tested positive for Covid-19.

As per media reports, half a dozen Indian players have tested positive. Other players who reportedly have contracted Coronavirus are Aaradhya Yadav, Vasu Vats, Manav Parakh and Siddharth Yadav. All of them have been isolated to avoid risk for crucial matches ahead.

The Indian management had 11 players for selection, thanks to 5 standby players who also flew to the Caribbean islands along with 15 first-choice players.

Despite the players' crisis, India posted a huge total of 307 for 5 against Ireland. Openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi (79) and Harnoor Singh (88) gave a rollicking start to India by stitching a 164 runs partnership for the first wicket before Rajvardhan Hangargekar smashed 39 in 17 balls.

India, a four-time U19 WC champion, started their journey with a win against South Africa. India next faces Uganda. (UNI)
