Bengaluru: Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the second leg of IPL 2021 due to finger injury.
"Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of #IPL2021 as he hasn’t fully recovered from his finger injury," Royal Challengers Bangalore said in a tweet.
The franchise wished a speedy recovery and hoped to see him in good shape soon.
Washington has scalped 19 wickets in 32 matches for RCB since 2018. In the first half of the IPL, he had taken three wickets in six matches.
This was RCB's fifth replacement of the season. They brought in Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga, Australia's Tim David, Dushmantha Chameera and George Garton, in place of Australian leggie Adam Zampa, New Zealand's Finn Allen, Australian pacers Daniel Sams and Kane Richardson, respectively.
Akash Deep, a state cricketer from Bengal who until now was a net bowler with RCB, has been named as Washington's replacement.
On Deep's replacement with Washington, RCB said the move reiterates the focus the franchise has on grooming and nurturing young players.
The franchise continues to develop exceptional talent and create a pathway for youngsters to find their way into IPL and Indian Cricket, they added.
Deep has been considered after his superlative performance in 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was second-highest wicket-taker for Bengal with seven scalps from five matches.
Deep has in his kitty 21 wickets in 15 T20s. (UNI)
