Australia has confirmed that Beau Webster will make his Test debut as the team's 469th men's Test cricketer in the series finale against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).Captain Pat Cummins announced on the eve of the match that Webster would replace Mitch Marsh, whose underwhelming performance with the bat led to his exclusion.

Webster's inclusion reflects Australia's focus on bolstering their batting depth in the top six. The 29-year-old Tasmanian has been in exceptional form, averaging 57.10 in first-class cricket since March 2022. His ability to contribute with the ball, 81 wickets at 31.70 in the same period, adds to his appeal."We felt it was time for a freshen up, and Beau's been great," Cummins said. "It's a shame for Mitchy, but it's a good week for Beau to get his chance."

Marsh managed just 73 runs at an average of 10.42 during the series, with scores of 9, 5, 4, 2, and 0 in his last five innings. Although Marsh has bowled only 13 overs across the last three Tests, the Australian management emphasised there are no fitness issues, despite earlier back complaints.

Cummins praised Marsh's team-first attitude, revealing Marsh's enthusiastic support for Webster’s debut. The SCG Test is Australia's biggest in two decades, evoking memories of Steve Waugh's farewell match in 2004. With a 2-1 series lead, Australia is aiming to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade.

A victory would also secure Australia’s qualification for the ICC World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord's in June.Mitchell Starc, dealing with a minor rib issue, will play in Sydney. "He was never going to miss this one," Cummins assured reporters.Cummins highlighted Australia's squad depth and adaptability, underscoring the importance of rotating players based on team needs.
