Williamson scores NZ record century as lead builds

Auckland: Captain Kane Williamson scored a New Zealand record 18th test century early on the second day of the first match against England on Friday to take his side's lead to 139 runs just before rain forced the players from the field at Eden Park.Williamson, who had been level with team mate Ross Taylor and former captain Martin Crowe on 17 centuries, brought up the milestone when he ran a quick single about 35 minutes after resuming the second day's play of the day-night test on 91.

The skipper and Henry Nicholls had resumed with New Zealand on 175 for three, and took the score through to 197, with Nicholls moving to 36 after he had begun the day on 24.England had been bowled out for 58 in the first 90 minutes of play on Thursday following a Trent Boult and Tim Southee seam onslaught.Boult finished with a career-best six for 32 after he had ripped the top off England's batting with 4-9 from his first six overs. Southee finished with 4-25.
