Wimbledon U-14: Kohlapur teenage tennis star Aishwarya Jadhav loses in 1st qualification match

London: Kohlapur's Aishwarya Jadhav, only Indian in U-14 Wimbledon Tennis competition, suffered defeat from Romanian player in the first match of the qualifying round on Sunday.

Aishwarya lost 3-6, 2-6 to Andrea Sor in the opening match. She has two more matches to go in the qualification round.

The game and confidence she showed in her first attempt is surely a testament to her future.

The 14-year-old took a 3-0 lead against Andrea in the first set, but later the Romanian showcased an aggressive play wrapped up the match 6-3,6-2.

"The game went well, but unfortunately we lost, but I am taking the good and negative things that have happened to me with me in a positive way. The experience of playing on the grass court at Wimbledon was the best. I am playing on the grasscourt for the first time," Aishwarya said after the match.

Aishwarya's coach Amrita Banerjee said: Being a part of the competition was the most important thing. It was a thrilling experience to see her at this place. Aishwarya has been consistently performing well. She has managed to reach number one in the under-14 category on the strength of her consistent excellence in the game."

The teenage star booked her spot in Wimbledon following her performance at the ITF world Girls Tennis U-14 competition.

She is a player of Kolhapur District Lawn Tennis Association and is training under the guidance of coaches Arshad Desai, Manal Desai. (UNI)
