Dambulla: In a resounding display of cricketing prowess, the India Women’s cricket team secured their place in the semifinals of the Asia Cup 2024 with an impressive 82-run victory over Nepal on Tuesday.

The match was a showcase of India's formidable batting and disciplined bowling, underscoring their status as one of the tournament's top contenders.

Opting to take the crease first first on a pitch favourable for batting, India women posted a formidable total of 178 for the loss of 3 wickets. The innings was anchored by Shafali Verma, who dazzled the spectators with a commanding 81 off 48 balls. Her innings included 12 boundaries and a towering six, demonstrating her aggressive intent and skillful stroke play.

Supporting Verma was Dayalan Hemalatha, who contributed a valuable 47 off 42 balls. Her innings was marked by steady accumulation of runs, building a solid platform for the middle order. Jemimah Rodrigues then added a quickfire 28 off just 15 balls, accelerating the scoring rate and pushing the total to a challenging score that would test Nepal’s batting lineup.

Nepal's bowlers struggled to break through India’s robust batting lineup. Sita Rana Magar emerged as the most effective bowler for Nepal, claiming 2 wickets for 25 runs. However, her efforts were not enough to curtail the scoring, as India's batswomen continued to find gaps and score freely.

In response, Nepal women faced a disciplined and relentless Indian bowling attack that proved too strong for them. Nepal could only muster a total of 96 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

The Indian bowlers were exceptional in their execution, with Arundhati Reddy leading the charge by taking 2 wickets for 28 runs. Her early breakthroughs set the tone for the rest of the innings.

Deepti Sharma was particularly outstanding, delivering a match-winning performance with the ball. She claimed 3 crucial wickets for just 13 runs, showcasing her ability to bowl in the crucial phases of the game and stifle the opposition’s batting. Radha Yadav also made a significant contribution, taking 2 wickets and ensuring that Nepal remained under pressure throughout their innings.

The supporting bowlers, including Renuka Singh, Tanuja Kanwar, and Sajeevan Sajana, played their part effectively. They maintained tight lines and lengths, making it difficult for Nepal's batswomen to score freely and mount a challenge. Their collective efforts ensured that Nepal never got close to the imposing target set by India.

India's victory was a testament to their well-rounded team performance. The combination of aggressive batting and precise, disciplined bowling highlighted their strength as a unit. With this commanding win, India Women have not only advanced to the semifinals but have also sent a strong message to their opponents about their readiness and capability in the Women's Asia Cup 2024.

As the tournament progresses, India Women will look to build on this momentum and continue their pursuit of the coveted title.
