New Delhi: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on Friday issued an apology for 'unintentionally' hurting the sentiments of some people.
Yuvraj's apology came after a police complaint was filed against him for his alleged casteist remark in jest against leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal during an Instagram live with Rohit Sharma.

''This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,'' Yuvraj posted on Twitter.

''I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian, I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody's sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same.''

On Thursday, a Dalit rights activist and Advocate Rajat Kalsan lodged a complaint with the police, in which he demanded registration of an FIR against the 38-year-old former cricketer.

The incident took place in April, when Yuvraj was in conversation with Rohit and they were discussing Chahal's TikTok videos.

A short clip of the conversation was widely shared on social media and prompted calls for an apology.

Chahal, one of India's premier spinners in shorter format of the game, has made quite a name for himself on the video sharing and social networking app TikTok.
