UIDAI extends deadline for free Aadhaar online update; Know how to change your details for free

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free online document updates in Aadhaar till June 14, 2026. This move will benefit millions of Aadhaar number holders across the country, allowing them to keep their identity records accurate and up-to-date at no cost, exclusively via the official myAadhaar portal.

What’s the Update?

Previously, online Aadhaar updates came with a nominal fee of Rs 50. Now, to encourage better document hygiene and simplify the update process, UIDAI has waived the fee for uploading Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents online.

However, this free service is only available online and not at Aadhaar centers, where charges still apply.

Note: Changes to mobile number, email ID, biometrics, or photo still require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Center and are chargeable.

Step-by-Step: How to Update Aadhaar Details Online for Free

1. Visit the official portal

Go to: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in

2. Login

Enter your Aadhaar number and the OTP received on your registered mobile number.

3. Review Details

Check the displayed demographic information (name, date of birth, address, etc.).

4. Verify Information

If the details are correct, click: "I verify that the above details are correct."

5. Upload Proof of Identity

Select your PoI document (e.g., PAN card, passport).

Upload in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format (max size: 2 MB).

6. Upload Proof of Address

Select your PoA document (e.g., electricity bill, bank statement).

Upload in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format (max size: 2 MB).

7. Submit and Save

Give consent and submit your request.

Save the Service Request Number (SRN) for tracking.

What After Submission?

You can track the update status anytime using the SRN on the myAadhaar portal. Once approved, your Aadhaar details will reflect the updated documents.
