What began as a petty domestic spat over a bar of soap between a couple, turned into a police case, arrest, and allegations of custodial violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh.
The incident occurred on Friday when Praveen Kumar (39) reportedly used his wife’s soap for bathing. According to police reports, the woman confronted Kumar about using her soap. In response, Kumar allegedly said that she often used his belongings and he never objected.
The argument soon spiraled out of control. As the fight escalated, the woman called the police, who arrived at the scene and took Kumar into custody.
Kumar later alleged that he was beaten by the police at the station, claiming that the issue was a "minor couple's fight".
“We received information that the man had assaulted his wife. He was brought to the police station and a case of disturbing the peace was registered. Investigation is on,” said Quarsi SHO Narendra Sharma.
Denying custodial violence, DSP Sarvam Singh said, “There is a video in which he can be seen misbehaving with the police team. The couple had minor injuries. Both were sent to the hospital for treatment. The accused was charged and produced before the magistrate."
