Bahraich murder accused shot in police encounter; were trying to flee to Nepal, says Police; Sister says they were picked up from home by UP STF

The two accused of the Bahraich murder case, Sarfaraz and Talib, were injured in an encounter on Thursday. According to reports, the encounter was carried out by the Bahraich district police near Handa Baseri canal in Nanpara.

Both the injured accused were were admitted in a hospital for treatment. Sarfaraj is son of Abdul Hameed, the house owner and main accused in the murder case of Ram Gopal Mishra. The UP STF has arrested all the five key accused in the case including Abdul Hameed. The accused were trying to flee to Nepal.

Communal violence broke out during a Durga Puja idol immersion procession in Bahraich on Sunday. 22-year-old Mishra was shot during the clashes.

Earlier, Hameed’s daughter Rukhsar has alleged that they all were picked up by the Special Task Force on Wednesday afternoon and feared that they might be killed in a fake encounter.

In a viral video, Rukhsar said, “...Yesterday at 4 pm, my father Abdul Hameed, my two brothers Sarfaraz, Faheem and another youth with them were picked up by the UP STF. I don't know where they are. My husband Osama and my brother-in-law Shahid have already been picked up. No news is being received about them from any police station. We fear that they may be killed in a fake encounter. I request PM Modi and UP CM Yogi for the safety of my family members."
