A 63-year-old man seeking treatment for knee pain got the biggest shock of his life during X-ray of his hip that his penis is turning into a bone!
As per Ladbible report, the man visited the hospital in 2019 as he was experiencing some pain in his left knee, following a fall onto the pavement walking with his cane.
The doctor got an X-ray of his hips done to rule out a fracture or some other related problem that could be causing knee pain. Instead, they were surprised to notice that a bone-like calcification was building up in his penis, which is an ‘exceedingly rare’ condition known as penile ossification.
The X-rays clearly show calcium salts built up in the soft tissue along the shaft of his manhood. As described by doctors in their report, his penis was becoming an 'extraskeletal bone'.
However, the patient didn't show any other symptoms typical of the condition, such as discharge or swelling.
As per the Urology Case Report, there have been less than 40 cases recorded in medical history.
According to Science Alert, the most common cause for penile ossification is Peyronie's disease, where fibrous scar tissue forms within the penis. Other things that can cause it are trauma, late stage kidney disease and other conditions that cause a calcium build-up in your body.
