Caught on cam: Uttar Pradesh policeman steals mobile phone of man sleeping in front of his shop in Kanpur, suspended

Kanpur: A police constable was suspended for stealing the mobile phone of a youth sleeping in front of his shop in Maharajpur area in the city on Sunday, police sources said here.
The action was taken after a video of the constable went viral on social media.
Police sources said Nitin Singh, a resident of Chhatmara, owns a shop in the village and was sleeping in front of his shop on Saturday night. " Constable Prigesh Singh who along with a Home Guard was on picket duty stole the mobile of Nitin. The entire act was caught by a CCTV installed nearby," they said.
Police sources said the footage of the CCTV showing Prigesh stealing the mobile went viral on Sunday.

"Taking serious cognizance of the viral video, Superintendent of Police (Outer) suspended the policeman with immediate effect and constituted a team to probe the matter," they said.
When contacted, SP Tej Pratap Singh said the constable has been suspended and a case has been registered against Prigesh and the Home Guard jawan at Maharajpur police station. "Further legal action is being taken," he said. (UNI)
