Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal chief Harnam Singh Khalsa has triggered controversy for appealing the community to have at least five children to strengthen Punjab religiously, socially, politically and culturally.

Addressing a religious function in Amritsar, Khalsa said, "Don’t limit your family to just one child. There should be at least five children in your house. If you can't take care of them, keep one child at home, give four to me. We will teach these children and also give them the knowledge of serving the Guru. If there are 5 children, one can become a saint, one can become a Jathedar and one will take care of the family."

"Not only Sikhs, but Hindus and people of other communities living in Punjab should also have a minimum of five children," he added.

This video of Harnam Singh Khalsa is going viral on the social media.

The Women Commission of Punjab has taken cognizance of the viral video and it said that such statement is not correct. Women are not baby-making machines.
