A Durga Puja pandal in Baharampur, West Bengal, has sparked debate after unveiling a demon idol modeled on former US President Donald Trump. The unique creation was displayed by the Khagra Crematorium Ghat Durga Puja Committee and crafted by artist Asim Pal.
Organisers explained that the choice was political. “This decision is in response to the 50 per cent tariff imposed by Trump and his visa policies. Our Prime Minister considered him a friend, but Trump betrayed that trust. That is why he has been shown as a demon,” a committee spokesperson told Anandabazar.com.
Social Media Reactions
The Trump-inspired idol has divided opinion online. Some viewers found it amusing, while others felt it was disrespectful and unnecessary.
One user commented, “This is not right. Pujo is not a joke.”
Another said, “Durga Puja is becoming entertainment. Earlier, demons would scare us. Now it’s just politics and fun.”
Others laughed at the creativity, with one writing, “Haha, this is too funny,” and another joking, “Why is the statue better looking than the original?”
