New Delhi: The BJP took up the matter of removal of a tweet by its Gujarat unit which showed caricature of a group of bearded men wearing kurta payjama and skull caps hanging collectively on a rope.
Twitter removed the tweet citing policy violation after several people, mainly opponents of the BJP, reported it on the microblogging platform.
"We have taken up the matter with Twitter," incharge of BJP's National Information and Technology Department Amit Malviya told UNI.
The tweet was posted by the Gujarat BJP unit's verified handle (@BJP4Gujarat) a day after the special court in Gujarat sentenced 38 people to death and ordered life in prison for 11 others over a series of bomb blasts in 2008 that killed dozens in Ahmedabad.
In the tweet, the Gujarat BJP unit wrote "Satyamev Jayate and no forgiveness to the perpetrator of terror" along with the caricature.
Some platforms have come forward to claim the removal of the tweet by Twitter. One such handle 'Team Saath official' came forward to take the credit saying "We did it #TeamSAATH...."
The screenshots of the caricature, however, have gone viral on the internet, invoking mixed reactions.
The Congress leaders of Gujarat have been reported as saying that terrorism has no religion and attempts to rejoice court judgement through controversial tweets should be avoided. (UNI)
