Mumbai: A 22-year-old youth was arrested by the neighbouring New Mumbai police for allegedly raping his 11-year-old cousin sister, while his two brothers, aged 28 and 21, were also arrested for shielding the main accused and threatening the victim’s family while they were on their way to register the case, officials said here on Thursday.
On December 30, 2024, when the 11-year-old girl from Warse village in Roha Taluka was cycling outside her house, the accused, who stayed nearby, called her at his home and sexually abused her and threatened that he would harm her if she told anyone about the incident,” Deputy Superintendent (Roha division) Ravindra Daundkar said.
After the incident, the accused had called her again.
on January 2 and January 3 as well and committed the same crime.
Fed up with the harassment, she finally told her mother about the incident, and when the parents of the victim were going to Roha police station to register a case, suddenly two brothers of the accused came to know, and they restrained the complainant from lodging a complaint while threatening them.” Daundkar added.
Later a complaint was filed under the POSCO Act, and all accused were arrested.
The prime accused was arrested for raping the minor, while his two brothers were arrested for shielding the accused and threatening the complainant.
All of them were produced in the court, which remanded them to police custody for five days.
