A bizarre accident unfolded at a Mahindra showroom in Delhi's Nirman Vihar on Monday evening, after a brand-new SUV flew out of the store's first floor during a customary lemon crushing ritual.
The incident involved 29-year-old Maani Pawar, who had just purchased a Mahindra Thar worth Rs 27 lakh. Before taking delivery, she decided to perform a traditional ritual of crushing a lemon under the vehicle's tyre - considered auspicious by many new car buyers.
According to police, Ms Pawar accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of slowly rolling the car forward. The SUV smashed through the showroom's glass facade and plunged onto the pavement below.
A showroom employee, identified as Vikas, was also inside the car at the time. The airbags opened immediately, preventing serious injuries.
Both occupants were immediately rushed to Malik Hospital, where they received first aid. They were discharged shortly after treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania confirmed the details, stating, "On enquiry, it was found that Maani and her husband Pradeep had purchased the Thar Rox vehicle from the showroom. No complaint has been filed in connection with the incident, and no bystanders were injured."
