It was a so called Rajput outfit named Karni Sena, which stormed into the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film “Padmavati” and ransacked it and slapped the esteemed director. Sushant (Singh)(Rajput), an actor, felt very hurt about it. Then he realized that : “Oops! I am also a “Rajput” and this embarrassed him so much that he decided to give up this name of the Rajput, if only for one day, if only to show his solidarity for SLB, if only to express his disgust.
Sushant wrote on Twitter : “I did it to show that the unfortunate action is not what everyone with that surname endorses. They do not represent the entire Rajputs.”
In short, Sushant really felt very, very embarrassed, but precisely why he felt so? In an industry (Bollywood), where films like “My Name is Khan” is made and endorsed, in fact where the sentiments like “My Name is Khan” roar high, where they unambiguously say that the terrorism has no religion, that no people should feel ashamed just because they belong to the same community as terrorists’s, that instead they should not be victimized, that let alone being embarrassed, they, contrary, should celebrate their identity. That they should speak out aloud : “My Name is Khan”, as if being “Khan” was some sort of accomplishment.
And in the same industry, what Sushant (well, he is no longer Sushant Singh Rajput, he gave it up) did? He was so ashamed of an event, as event of slapping – nothing compared to Paris, Peshawar, Pentagon terror attacks by “Khans” – that he decided to give up his Rajput identity. Not that he, or anyone else for that matter, should cling to his or her identity forever, but this is hardly a reason to give it up.
It only goes to shows the lack of self esteem, lack of pride, even lack of common sense and intellect on part of the actor, known for films like “MS Dhoni: An Untold Story.”
What was he thinking, precisely? Let’s examine the thinking process of Sushant.
He thought :
1) Sanjay Leela Bhansali attacked.
2) The attackers claimed to be Rajputs.
3) This is horrible, the street trial, the lynching.
4) But hang on, I am also a Rajput, so am I also not the culprit?
5) Since I don’t want to be a culprit, let me give up on being a Rajput.
Kiddish, school children’s logics! To look upon oneself as a Rajput in the first place, to assume that anyone who claims to be a Rajput can share his sense of pride, to align oneself with a mob in the most ridiculous way, and to give on his self imposed identity just because of that. Plain stupid, if you ask me.
Well Sushant, if it wasn't so melodramatic, it would have been absolutely stupid, something which it is anyway. Wake up and grow up, and don’t play to the gallery. The gallery will make a fool out of you -- if you play too much for them -- and will sell you cheap eventually. Get some reality check. Be mature.
